This site gives insights into Douglas Mawson's life and into the science which inspired him. It can be viewed on its own, or it can be used in conjunction with a visit to the exhibition In the Footsteps of Sir Douglas Mawson at the South Australian Museum.

Upon entering the site, you view a reconstruction of Mawson's hut at Commonwealth Bay in Antarctica. Here you can click on one of three notebooks. One gives an abbreviated life history of Sir Douglas. You can choose either a concise story or follow your own interests from a timeline in the Chronological Biography. The other notebooks give information about the places where Mawson pursued his major scientific interests -- outback Australia (particularly the Flinders Ranges) and Antarctica.
